Ingredients

  • 1 can tuna drained and flaked
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp of mayonnaise or Miracle Whip salad dressing
  • 2 Tbsp onion minced
  • 2 Tbsp dill pickle minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced cheddar cheese enough for 4 sandwiches
  • 8 slices of bread
  • 2 Tbsp butter for frying
  • Tomato slices optional

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the tuna, mayo or Miracle Whip, onions, dill pickles, and salt and pepper.
  • Spread the tuna mixture evenly on four slices of bread.
  • Put the sliced cheddar cheese over the tuna mixture.
  • Top with tomato slices, if using.
  • Butter one side of the remaining bread slices and put them butter side up on top of the sandwiches.
  • Heat a frying pan on medium heat and add 1 Tbsp of butter.
  • When the butter is melted and sizzling, place the sandwiches in the pan butter side down.
  • Now, butter the side of the bread that is on top.
  • Cook the sandwiches, until golden brown on the bottom, then flip them over and cook the other side. That will take three to five minutes per side.
  • Depending on the size of your skillet, you may have to cook them in batches.
  • To serve, cut the sandwiches in triangles. Cuz triangles are cool.

Notes

Eat these easy tuna melt sandwiches with chips and some carrots or alongside a bowl of soup.
